Clergy and lay leaders from across the Diocese are invited to spend a Saturday exploring how our churches can grow, renew and plant for the generations to come.
The For Such a Time as This Church Planting and Regeneration Forum will be held on Saturday 7 November at St Columba College, Andrews Farm, hosted by Archbishop Bradly Billings.
“We live in interesting and challenging times, not least of which as a church,” the invitation reads. “What is God calling us to be and do in this season and in the coming years? How are we ensuring that the legacy of faith entrusted to us is being passed on to future generations?”
The day will explore ways to think missionally and creatively about local churches, church planting and the future, with time set aside for discussion and questions. Participants will hear from experienced leaders about how churches can be transformative — including what is already happening here in Adelaide.
Two guest presenters bring deep practical experience:
- The Venerable Dr Bree Mills, Archdeacon for Church Planting in the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne, who holds a doctorate in missional leadership and has spent many years developing leaders for church planting and missional communities.
- The Reverend Paul Harrington, Senior Network Pastor of the Trinity Church Network, who has led Trinity’s growth into a network of congregations across Adelaide since its first church plant in 2001.
Organisers especially hope that clergy and lay leaders will come together from their parishes and congregations, so that the conversation can continue back home.
Part of a wider conversation
The forum is one of several steps in the Diocese’s thinking about its future. Around 160 people took part in facilitated sessions at Brighton, Salisbury and Norwood during August as part of The Road Ahead, feeding into a revised diocesan vision and strategic priorities to be considered at Synod in October.
In February 2027 the Diocese will also welcome the team from Leading your Church into Growth (LyCiG) for a free two-day conference at the Lakes Hotel Adelaide on 5 and 6 February.
For those wanting to build their own confidence in mission, the St Barnabas College Community of Learning offers short courses for lay people, including Being Missional and Sharing Your Faith in Everyday Life.
