The large parish hall of All Souls Anglican Church in St Peters was a polling station in the recent Voice Referendum. To raise funds for a community garden on the church site, the parish organised a Sausage Sizzle and Plant Stall that raised close to $3 000.
A local artist, Rehana Usman of Studio Rags also provided a free art activity in the church to entertain children while their parents voted.
Organiser of the project, People’s Warden, Emma Robinson, said: “We had a wonderful day engaging with our local community, selling sausages and plants, and having people go through the church enjoying its beauty. There was a really positive atmosphere, and people were very excited about the idea of a community garden.”
