St Michael’s Mitchum unveiled the winners of its Hymns of Hope contest last night, Sunday 16 February, as part of St Barnabas College’s Festival of Hope in Theology and the Arts.
The Rev’d Andrew Mintern took honours for the Original Hymn & Composition category with his hymn Hope In God, Who Is My Help, while Margaret Dingle won in the category of Original Hymn with The Hope of the World.

The hymns, along with runners up and highly commended entries were sung during the service, with the assistance of a choir drawn from the local churches of the deanery.
The contest attracts ted 27 entrants from across Australia and even one entry from the UK.
“We were over the moon with the response to the competition,” said Parish Priest Fr David Covington-Groth. “We plan to produce the hymns in a booklet that we will share with the Anglican Church across Australia.”
Runner up in the original composition category was organist Becky Llewellyn with Open Your Heart while Henry Davis was runner up in the known tune category with Eternal God, we lift our eyes.
Anna Zweck, Allan L McDougall, the Rev’d John Carol, and Cynthia Kennedy were all Highly Commended.
