Palm crosses for reconciliation

Does your parish want to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ministry across Australia? Do you need Palm Crosses for Palm Sunday?

This Lent, you can do both by ordering your green palm crosses for Palm Sunday from the Adelaide Anglicans who participated in the Anglican Board of Mission’s Larapinta Challenge in June and July 2021.

You can download the order form here.

All proceeds from the sale of the crosses will go towards ABM’s Easter Appeal which is raising funds for the important work of Reconciliation and ministry by and to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Anglicans in Australia.

By buying your palm crosses here, you will ensure the work of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Council (NATSIAC) can continue this year after a Covid related pause.

It is crucial for this group to meet and oversee the process of allocating the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mission Grants, which fund Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ministry across Australia.

The fiddly business of making palm crosses requires concentration: Judith Brown, Rev’d Wendy Morecroft, Dawn Goonasekera and Sara Blunt at last year’s working bee.

Your gift will also ensure the Rev’d Gloria Shipp’s important work with Aboriginal elders can continue in Bathurst Diocese and it will also mean the Dioceses of North Queensland and Northern Territory can expand their work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait leaders in their local communities.

More information about ABM’s Easter Appeal will be available soon from www.abmission.org.au/Easter2022

There will also be an opportunity to help make crosses with palm cross making working bees being held at St Bede’s Semaphore and All Soul’s St Peters as follows:

All Soul’s St Peters, Cnr Third Avenue and Stephen Terrace. Please email [email protected] if you intend to come

St Bede’s Semaphore, 200 Military Road, Semaphore. Please email [email protected] if you intend to come

It would be a good idea to bring gardening gloves and secateurs to help prepare the palms for folding.
