Calling all children to the Cathedral

The wildly popular children’s Christmas eve service at St Peter’s Cathedral has been the latest casualty of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The annual service usually attracts up to 500 children. their parents, grandparents and even great-grandparents, with the kids dressing up as characters from the Christmas story.

“Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we have had to cancel that service, but that doesn’t mean there is no room for children to join with their families to celebrate this special time of year.

“Families are welcome to come to the Cathedral in the run-up to Christmas, to take a break from shopping, visit the Nativity scene and reflect on the real reason for this season of peace and goodwill at the end of a difficult year,” Dean Frank Nelson said.

The Cathedral is open to the public from Tuesday to Saturday, 11am-3pm.

“We have a special Service this Sunday (20 December) at 6pm and two carol services on Tuesday and Thursday evening (22 & 24 December) at 7pm.

Most of the following services will be livestreamed on the Cathedral Facebook Page.
